Sex Meets Art: On Condoms

artimg.pngJenn Ramsey at AVN has picked up on Art Condoms and has written a bit about the project:

The Art Condom project began in March 2007. The line features designs by artists like Robert Williams, Coop, Peter Bagge, Trevor Brown, Peter Kuper, Ron English, Johnny Ryan, Winston Smith and the SubGenius Foundation. "It's part of our mission here at Condomania to make safer sex accessible, fun and exciting," Segall explained. "The Art Condoms project has been a great opportunity to fulfill that goal while working with some of my favorite artists in the lowbrow art scene."

Peter Bagge At Secret Headquarters

Kevin sends this along:

Last Saturday night I was pleased to attend an artist reception for Art Condoms contributor Peter Bagge at Secret Headquarters Comic Shop/Gallery in Silverlake, California. The place was packed to the gills with Peter Bagge's loyal fans. After checking out all of Peter's great new work, I spent most of my time enjoying the company of Art Condoms contributor Johnny Ryan (Angry Youth Comix), Johnny's lovely wife Jenny (founder of the kitschy-cool crafting organization, Felt Club), and Kaz (creator of the alternative comic Underworld). To the credit of the staff at Secret Headquarters, Peter Bagge Condoms were on prominent display!

A Little Quadrinhos

It looks as though Globo Brasil has picked up on Peter Bagge's condoms. I have taken the liberty of using Google to translate their little piece in case you are wondering (and can't take the time to translate it for yourself):

Buddy Bradley, one of the personages more known of the American cartunista Peter Bagge, finishes to gain a homage unexpected: it prints a series of condoms of the store of Condomania condoms. Created in the end of the decade of 1980 for the pages of the magazine “Neat stuff”, Buddy finished being adopted as one them icons it movement grunge of Seattle in the quadrinhos. In its histories, later congregated in the series “Hate”, the personage lives to the returns with a its namorada and colleague of apartment that is not fond the bath. Available in packages of 12, 60 and 144 units, the condoms can be ordered in the site of the store. E, before somebody asks, the condoms grunge are not chess.

Not exactly sure what it means but make of it what you will.

Boinged Boinged

Well look at that. We've just barely gotten out of the gate with these condoms and Boing Boing has picked us up on their comic/klatch pop culture radar. Here's to Peter Bagge!

Social Networking Nerd

Peter Bagge has a MySpace page. So does Johnny Ryan. It would be great if Johnny were to design a condom!

Peter Bagge Writes a Letter

Attached is a tiff image for you to use. Tell me if it'll do, and/or if you want to see other images as well! Also, here's my bio from Fantagraphics' website:
By common consensus, Peter Bagge is the funniest cartoonist of his generation. Bagge is best known for the '90s comic book series Hate, which followed the exploits of the slacker ne'er-do-well Buddy Bradley (and managed to show probably the truest representation of Seattle during the "grunge" boom and bust). But the Buddy Bradley saga is only a small part of Bagge's oeuvre, which saw its first glory days in R. Crumb's Weirdo Magazine in the 1980s (which he edited for several issues) and continues to expand to this day as he appears in Reason magazine, MAD, and in with a mini-series from Dark Horse called "Apocalypse Nerd."

I hope that will do!

But we're not gonna show you the tiff he sent us yet. Stay tuned!
