And You Can Listen If You Want To
Since we know so little about the market in South Africa even we aren't in a position to evaluate this little gem. But it does seems so cartoon like we had visions of Bugs Bunny reeling in our little brains after viewing it.

A Meter for the Regent
Avert has a couple of images of condoms in their early stages of design: here & here. No information though on how these things were packaged. I suspect the condom for the king was likely wrapped in purple velvet and had a handmaiden attached who was properly trained in affixing the 'condum' to the royal member.

Pedigree
Art Condoms are the brainchild of Kevin Segall, Director of Sales and Marketing at Condomania. Not coincidentally, Kevin was the founder of the Essential Media Counterculture Catalog, a fixture of the alternative culture scene from 1996 to 2001. Essential Media published an exhaustive website devoted to the best in underground books, comix, incredibly strange recordings, cult videos, and small press zines.
Essential Media's quarterly print catalog featured interviews with and articles by such visionaries as Rev. Ivan Stang (SubGenius Foundation), R.U. Sirius, Rev. Al (Cacophony Society), Anton LaVey (Church of Satan), Jello Biafra, and Crispin Glover.
Lauded by such publications as Time Magazine, Playboy, Wired, and the Los Angeles Times, Essential Media nevertheless went the way of the dinosaur - as did other alternative magazines Fringeware Review and the Whole Earth Catalog around the same time.

Zazoo's Kid
This is one we watch a lot around the condom factory. Having passed that age with my kid I do not look back on those fits with fondness. The ad certainly gets your attention. I've never seen it on tv but I can't imagine anyone would ignore it when it comes on. Bravo for Zazoo's condoms!

Why We Do This
Why would anyone spend time & energy devoted to a website on condom design?
That's a good question. Condomania has always been very involved in the design and marketing of condoms. Our goal since day 1 has been to change the way society relates to condoms and in the process generate more condom usage and better condoms. We have this funny notion that if the condoms we use are well designed and the packaging and marketing of condoms are pleasing and humorous that society will be a better place.
To this end we have pushed the condom industry to expand its perspective on how to sell condoms and how to design condoms which people will use. We recently got the bright idea to gather together a bunch of working artists and ask them to design packaging for condoms which will both interest and excite our customers. This website is our attempt to document that process while also pointing out where others in the condom industry are doing things right, and where they are doing things wrong from our perspective.
Just to give you an idea of how long we've been pushing this here's an example of a video made for Condomania back in the early 1990's. Hope you like!
Stay tuned as we unveil our lines of art condoms and point you to some of the best and worst of the world of condoms.
Peter Bagge Writes a Letter
By common consensus, Peter Bagge is the funniest cartoonist of his generation. Bagge is best known for the '90s comic book series Hate, which followed the exploits of the slacker ne'er-do-well Buddy Bradley (and managed to show probably the truest representation of Seattle during the "grunge" boom and bust). But the Buddy Bradley saga is only a small part of Bagge's oeuvre, which saw its first glory days in R. Crumb's Weirdo Magazine in the 1980s (which he edited for several issues) and continues to expand to this day as he appears in Reason magazine, MAD, and in with a mini-series from Dark Horse called "Apocalypse Nerd."
I hope that will do!
But we're not gonna show you the tiff he sent us yet. Stay tuned!
