Leah Garchik on Winston Smith
Collage artist Winston Smith sends word that his "Cross of Dollars," conceived in 1978 and to have been his "star piece" in a current Oklahoma City art expo, was not shown because someone on the City Arts Centre's board of directors found it offensive. The work features religious symbolism and greenbacks, and Smith is proud it's still packing a wallop.
He also sends word of a new line of condoms featuring his art. This innovation makes Smith one of the rare artists whose work has been on New Yorker covers and ... well, you know where.
